چکیده
The Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) mission has provided over ten years of high-quality data products for environment forecasting and monitoring through the current Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (S-NPP) NOAA-20 satellites. Particularly, sensor record (SDR) derived environmental (EDR) from Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), Cross-track Sounder (CrIS), Advanced Technology Microwave (ATMS), Ozone Mapping Profiler (OMPS) offer an unprecedented opportunity to observe severe weather events Earth. This paper presents observations about atmospheric features Hunga Tonga Volcanic eruption January 2022, e.g., gravity wave, volcanic cloud, aerosol (sulfate) plume phenomena, by using ATMS, CrIS, OMPS, VIIRS SDR EDR products. Powerful waves ringing atmosphere after volcano are discovered at two CrIS upper sounding channels (670 cm−1 2320 cm−1) in deviations observed brightness temperature (O) simulated baseline (B) Community Radiative Transfer Model (CRTM), i.e., O—B. A similar pattern is also ATMS global maps channel 15, whose peak weighting function around 40 km, showing disturbance caused that reached km above surface. cloud (plume) was captured OMPS SO2 product. wave were native resolution image S-NPP I-5 band nighttime observations. In addition, Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) tracked successfully. These discoveries demonstrate scientific potential JPSS tracking its impacts. uniquely all four advanced sensors onboard satellites, with different spectral coverages spatial resolutions.

An Overview of the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) Science Data Product Calibration and Validation
The Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) will launch its first JPSS-1 satellite in early 2017. The JPSS-1 and follow-on satellites will carry aboard an array of instruments including the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS), the Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), and the Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite (OMPS). These instruments ar...
متن کاملUsing Wind Data to Predict the Risk of Volcanic Eruption: An Example from Damavand Volcano, Iran
Damavand volcano is located 60 km to the East North- East of Tehran. It is a dormant stratovolcano outcrop in the Alborz Mountains of northern Iran and is the highest mountain (5670 m) in the Middle East and West Asia. Mazandaran Province, one of the most populous provinces by population density, Semnan and Gorgan provinces further east are neighbours of the Damavand. Volcanism in Damavand goes...
متن کاملVolcanic eruption plume top topography and heights as determined from photoclinometric analysis of satellite data
Photoclinometry, a shape-from-shading technique, is applied to satellite data to determine the three-dimensional height and morphology of the upper optical surface of a plume from the eruption of Redoubt Volcano, Alaska. The technique can be applied to visible images of volcanic plumes that have uniform scattering properties and is most effective on images with moderate incident Sun angles and ...
متن کاملTriboelectric charging of volcanic ash from the 2011 Grímsvötn eruption.
The plume from the 2011 eruption of Grímsvötn was highly electrically charged, as shown by the considerable lightning activity measured by the United Kingdom Met Office's low-frequency lightning detection network. Previous measurements of volcanic plumes have shown that ash particles are electrically charged up to hundreds of kilometers away from the vent, which indicates that the ash continues...
